Hi Kate,

I found your blog on your FB page. We have one son who was born Oct 3, 2010, so our sons are pretty close in age. When I saw this post, I knew I had to write. My parents took me everywhere (and sometimes my nephew went with us too) in an Avion camper. We pulled it behind our van. We headed out west almost every summer from the time I was about in 3rd grade. We would go for 2-3 weeks. We covered a lot of territory, including a lot of the Southern part of Canada. I have great memories of National Parks, hikes, campgrounds, vehicle repairs, etc. My favorite memories are the National Parks. I realize now how blessed/lucky I was to have had the opportunity to go to so many and see what great things this country has to offer at such a young age. Now, I teach English as a New Lang to high school students, many are refugees, and I talk about these awesome places in the U.S. sometimes and wish I could do more than just show them pictures because I know so many people in our country don't have the opportunity to travel. I hope that one day we can take our son to these great places too. We started with the Smokies this year.

Yeah, I totally understand that kind of situation. I don't have an particular advice to give other than that I always ask myself if I'd still think about it for months (or years!) after selling it. If the answer is yes, I keep it. I also consider giving up part of the collection if that part is something I would be likely to come across again.

There are a few things I've passed up buying that I still think about even after a number of years....so I ask myself the same kind of question as above when I'm going back and forth on whether or not to make a purchase.

Yes, definitely, and my kid doesn't even exist yet. It only makes good sense to buy something you come across that you know you won't likely find again. Especially if it's an amazing deal. In the long run, I know that it's saving me tons of money. The other option would be to buy all of the clothes all at once when the child was a certain size, leading me to have to choose stuff I wasn't entirely crazy about and spending more money than I am comfortable with. Keep buying, I say!

I am a huge thrifter - and I buy stuff that is waaaay too big for my kiddo all the time. I like stuff that is unique and one of a kind, so if I see something that I love, I snap it up. Especially at thrifted prices - $1.47 for a black hoodie with cassette tapes printed on it? Yes please! I seriously found that hoodie the other day and about threw a party, even though it was a 2T. YES! I definitely buy things for Sierra that she wears 1 or 2 years later. And I'm usually really glad I have them when one day her cloths don't fit and *poof* I have some new cloths at hand that do. Otherwise at the moment of crisis you're out looking for clothing and likely getting things that are more expensive out of necessity.

i have a whole giant rubbermaid container of the next few sizes. most of my stuff is hand-me-downs but if I see something exceptionally cute at a thrift or consignment shop (or even new sometimes) I'll buy ahead. So far it's worked out well.
